Laurène Bounaud : National Director
Email : l.bounaud@humanityinaction.org
Laurene Bounaud graduated in political science from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques of Toulouse and the faculty of Sorbonne in Paris. She then worked as a parliamentary assistant at the French Parliament. More interested in local politics, she worked for the Deputy Mayor at the City Hall of the 19th district of Paris. For six months she was in charge of about 20 projects in line with the promotion of diversity and multicultural dialogue. There she discovered new ways of empowering the local communities and setting up programs linked to interreligious dialogue within a republican framework. She is particularly interested in the news and  is involved in politics and social justice. After participating in the HIA 2010 summer program as a fellow, she was given the chance to spend 6 months in San Francisco working for an NGO to promote interreligious dialogue. She came back to France to work for Humanity In Action as a project coordinator. Through HIA France, she had the opportunity to set up a workshop on the history and the diversity of Rromas in Europe, to run two summer programs, to discover an amazing international network of outstanding fellows and to develop projects with senior fellows in line with social cohesion, equal opportunities and fighting discriminations. She is now the national director at HIA France.

Edward Christmas – Intern
Edward is a Literature undergrad student in Norwich in the UK. He grew up in England, until he moved to Lyon and passed the OIB at the Cité Scolaire Internationale in Gerland. This diverse education, and that he was lucky enough to have travelled a lot when he was younger, has allowed him to see many different cultures, and appreciate the need for tolerance and communication between them.
He is passionate about international and internal affairs, particularly surrounding ethnic, religious, political and socio-economic forms of oppression. For this reason, his interests have gravitated towards journalism. This is because he believes that sharing correct and precise information is fundamental to progress against the existence of intolerance or prejudice.
He wanted to participate in the HIA-Lyon program because he thinks that it is a great opportunity to have an intense and yet broad look at the problems regarding such issues as discrimination and injustice in modern society, and explore ways to combat them.
